Selective Universities & the Significance of SAT Scores
It is the position of Cambridge Accelerated that college choices should be just that: college choices. Attending or not attending a particular college should ideally be a decision, not a concession. This decision should be inclusive of Top 25 U.S. colleges, if the student feels an inclination to explore those options. Students should not limit their selection process due to a number on a test, especially when that number can be significantly improved upon with the right approach.
According to the 2019 U.S. News & World Report College Rankings, the median SAT score for freshman entering Top 25 U.S. National Universities ranges from 1400-1530. Cambridge Accelerated has had unparalleled success in helping students to achieve their greatest potential on standardized tests and to reach their personal goals: 80% of students have scored above 1400 on the SAT when the student has a starting score of 1200-1390 (compared to a national average of 14% from the same percentile group), and 48% of students have scored above 1500 on the SAT when the student has a starting score of 1300 or more (compared to a national average of 11% from the same percentile group).
Cambridge Accelerated students have attended 25 of the 26 schools ranked as Top 25 National Universities, according to U.S. News & World Report, and have gained admission to ALL Top 25 National Universities.
An intense debate currently rages about what exactly standardized tests like the SAT measure, and precisely how scores should be used to determine college admisssions. No matter where you stand on this debate, the fact is that the SAT is both a standard and a challenge, and the scores are used in some capacity to determine college admissions. Cambridge Accelerated’s position is that there is nothing wrong with students: challenging themselves, preparing for challenges, holding themselves to high standards, or seeking acceptance into institutions that hold students to high standards. College decisions are about students' personal choices, and test prep is about helping students to have a broader range of possibilities to choose from.
